Protecting the Constitution

constitution Unpatriotic, some say. Sour grapes, others say. I say resisting a trump presidency is the most patriotic action I can do right now. I insist on a president who will uphold the principles of our Constitution and defend the Bill of Rights, who has a core belief in the dignity of all people – all colors, cultures, creeds, and gender. If the electorates vote on November 19 to put trump in the oval office, then on January 20th trump will take the oath of office – to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Yet, his record shows that he has not respected our Constitution and has threatened our freedoms.

Take for instance Amendment 1 of the Constitution which states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Trump has continually expressed disdain for the Press, has threatened to weaken libel protections and has threatened lawsuits against journalists. He blacklisted news organizations from covering his campaign if they reported stories that were not flattering to his persona. And as of 11/10/16 he rejected the practice of traveling with a “protective pool” of reporters for his first visit to Washington since the election. White House Correspondents Association President Jeff Mason said in a statement, “In addition to breaking with decades of historical precedent and First Amendment principles, this decision could leave Americans blind about his whereabouts and well-being in the event of a national crisis. A pool of reporters is in place and ready to cover President-elect Trump. The WHCA urges President-elect Trump to allow it to do its job…”

Regarding the right of the people to peaceably assemble, take Trump’s opinion of the Chinese government’s brutal response to the peaceful pro-democracy Tiananmen Square protest of 1989, in which he praised the government for its strong response, a response that killed 500 to 1000 protesters. Now in the 3rd day of trump america, there have been protests against his election as president. Some protesters damaged property, but almost all the protests have been peaceful. The usual trump media folks are at it early with the conspiracy theories: Soros is funding and organizing the protests, and claiming that media shouldn’t pay attention to protesters because they are taking attention away from their new leader.  Trump’s potential Homeland Security director, David A. Clark, Jr., has tweeted “These temper tantrums from these radical anarchists must be quelled. There is no legitimate reason to protest the will of the people.” And trump’s initial tweet reveals his lack of respect for the Bill of Rights: “Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!” Just for the record, there is no measure of legitimacy for the reason to protest in america; it’s our right to peaceably assemble. I don’t condone in anyway the trump protests that turned destructive; there are assholes in any group. Take for instance the Loyal White Knights of Pelham, North Carolina, who will have a victory parade on December 3rd to celebrate trump’s race uniting their people. The KKK’s right to a peaceful parade is also protected by the constitution.  That’s how it works. See, I am a good sport.

And then there is Amendment VIII which states: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Trump wants to bring back waterboarding, and endorses killing the families of those who he regards as terrorists. He has the mentality of a mob boss.

And how about the Declaration of Independence which states: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Trump has mocked the disabled, humiliated women, slandered Mexican Americans, and exploited undocumented workers.

So, you see, I am not being a poor sport by not accepting trump as president. I truly believe he is completely unqualified to be president, and that he is a dangerous treasonous man and he will endanger our Republic if he gains the power of the White House.
